Marvin L. Sanders, 71, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, March 1, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Veronica Don officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL

Mr. Sanders was born on November 12, 1937 in Atwood, IL, the son of Francis R. and Eva L. Evans Sanders. He married Carolyn M. Sims on August 29, 1959 in Atwood, IL. She survives.

Others survivors include: 1 Son: Doug Sanders and wife: Lisa of Champaign, IL, 1 Daughter: Pam Simpson and husband: Eugene of Atwood, IL, 3 Grandsons: Tad Simpson and wife: Jamie, Anthony Sanders and Josh Simpson and wife: Jessalee

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Norman Sanders.

Marvin retired from Caterpillar in 1996, where he had worked as a material specialist for 31 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Atwood High School. He was a member of the United Church of Atwood, Sons of the American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL, UAW and Kaskaskia Country Club. Marvin loved to play golf, go to auctions and go fishing in Alaska. He never met a stranger, if he owed you a dime, he paid you a dime, and he always had a story to tell. Marvin was very proud of and loved his family very much. He was very fond of his dogs. Marvin wanted to thank Dr. Benjamin Esparaz and staff at the Cancer Center Institute for their excellent care.
