Obituary

Marvel Lorianne Cordts, 90, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 3:19 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Lake Fork United Church of Christ, 1401 East County Road 300 North, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL is handling the arrangements.

A reception for family and friends will be held at the Harris Agriculture Museum, 202 West Locust Street, Atwood, IL from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday following the funeral services.

Mrs. Cordts was born on September 23, 1918 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Roy and Ethel James Harshbarger. She married Vernon R. Cordts on September 25, 1940 in Conway, MO. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1986.

Surviving are her children: Rosalind Bruce and husband Kenneth of Springfield, IL, Fred Cordts and wife Barbara of Decatur, IL, Thomas Cordts and wife Paula of Decatur, IL, Julianne Shipton and husband Steven of Palatine, IL, 7 grandchildren: Colin Bruce, Devon Bruce, Sheri Cordts, Matthew Cordts, Valarie Cordts, Claire Shipton and Iain Shipton and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers.

Marvel was a homemaker. She and her husband formerly owned and operated the Atwood Market. She was a member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ and the James Reeder American Legion Auxiliary Post #770, Atwood, IL. Marvel was a member of the 16 Hi Card Club and the Atwood Women's Club. She was a graduate of Atwood High School and Brown's Business College in Decatur, IL
