Obituary

Martha Madalyn (Mack) Suhl, 92, of Arthur, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, at Zion United Church of Christ, northeast of Arthur, with Pastor Kenneth Roedder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family at a visitation to be held at the church one hour before the services. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Madalyn was born April 3,1921 in Decatur, the daughter of Emerald Emerson and Lillian Elizabeth (Witham) Mack. She married Albert Edward (Ed) Suhl in Decatur on June 27, 1948.

Madalyn is survived by one son, Steven (Ellie) Suhl of Rochester; daughter, Karol (Mark) Allen of Minnetonka, Minnesota; grandchildren, Matthew E. Suhl of Chicago; Jonathan V. Suhl of Iowa City, Iowa; Kelsey (Greg) Karssen of Ankeny, Iowa; Katharine Allen of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and one great grandchild, Hannah Karssen. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.

Madalyn graduated from Decatur High School in 1939. She served her country from 1944 to 1946 as a Wave in the United States Navy. Before marriage, she worked in the purchasing department of A.E. Staley Co., Decatur, then supported Ed in their farm business. She was a homemaker until their retirement.

Madalyn was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Arthur, where she was active in the Women's Fellowship, taught Sunday School and participated in the church choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

A great cook and an avid artist, Madalyn enjoyed sketching and painting throughout her life. She and Ed shared a love of the farm life, travel, boating, golf and spending time with family. Later in life, they enjoyed sharing a meal together with their family and friends at Yoder's Kitchen in Arthur.

Madalyn loved the Lord Jesus Christ and life; her quick wit and optimistic attitude blessed everyone around her. A beloved wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, she will be dearly missed.
