Obituary

Marilyn J. Hancock, 87, a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away from the consequences of Parkinson's on April 30, 2024 with her family surrounding her. She was beloved by many for her wit, her intelligence, and her kindness.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill; daughters, Alison (Jim) Heiser, Leslie Boone and Paula Hancock; sister, Barbara Hillard; brother-in-law, Jim Hancock; sister-in-law, Janice Tay; grandchildren, Emily (Grant) Redfield, Natalie Boone, Lauren Boone, and Michael (Alli) Heiser; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Thelma Tay, brother Neal Tay, brother-in-law George Hillard, and nephew Lance Tay.

Marilyn was born in Bourbon, Illinois and raised in Villa Grove. She attended a one-room schoolhouse where her love of learning began with a life-long appreciation for the arts. She graduated from Villa Grove High School in 1954. She was never limited in her views on the pursuit of education and she instilled this in her daughters and grandchildren. Marilyn loved attending graduations and was so proud of all the many academic achievements of her family. Throughout her life she took many classes, travelled to learn about history, and read voraciously about the world around her.

A memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 South Prospect Avenue, Champaign, Illinois on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), CROP, or Heifer International would be appreciated.
