Marie Schaffer Bird, 81, of Atwood, IL, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. She was born in Clinton, Iowa to Ernest Schaffer and Olga Martinsen Schaffer Day Hushour on November 28, 1928.
She married Harold R. Bird on September 18, 1949 in Chicago, IL
She is survived by her husband: Harold; Son: Jim Bird and wife: Linda of Farmington, MO, Daughter: Carol Skelley and husband: Mark of Oakley, IL, Daughter: Cindy Plummer and husband: Larry of Arthur, IL, eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One son: John, preceded her in death.
Marie was known for doing genealogy and for collecting dolls. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Decatur, IL. She was a DAR member. Marie and Harold spent 15 years volunteering with the mission group: Helping Hands, which they helped to build 29 church buildings around the USA.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Tyler Penn officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL
