Margaret L. Meyer, 81, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, IL, with Father Delix Michel as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery.
Margaret was born June 11, 1933 in Atwood, IL, the daughter of Harold B. and Mildred V. Mouser (Decker) Utterback. She married Wayne N. Meyer on August 21, 1954 in Tuscola, IL. He survives.
Other survivors include her children: Mike (Connie) Meyer of Tuscola, Jean Kahn of Peoria, Jim Meyer, Anna (Kent) McGillen,, Dan (Dena) Meyer and Jaci Manzella all of Tuscola, grandchildren: Lauren Meyer, Clayton Meyer, Natalie Kahn, Kellie Kahn, Kate Blahnik, Jennifer Meyer, Christina Meyer, Whitney (Brady) Fennel, David Meyer, Philip Meyer, Maria Meyer and Lidia Margaret Manzella, great-grandson: Liam Fennel, brother: Bob (Barb) Utterback of Tuscola, sisters: Inez (Marvin) Martin of Lee's Summit, MO, Evelyn (Jess) Story of Spotsylvania, VA and sister-in-law: Elsie Utterback of Pontiac, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Everett Decker, Sr., grandson: Andy McGillen and brothers: Dean and Wayne Utterback
Margaret graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1951 and from Burnham Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at Jarman Memorial Hospital and at the Newman Health Care Center. Margaret also worked as a private duty nurse.
She was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, where she was a charter member of the church choir and she was a member of the Altar Society. Margaret served on the Douglas County Health Board and was a member of the Douglas County Medical Response Corps. She enjoyed collecting owls, angels and embroidery. Margaret was a very devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan. She enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and older TV shows.
