Mabel Elizabeth Bennett, 90, of Humboldt, died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Jeremy Harminson officiating. Burial will follow in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the funeral service.
Mabel was born June 9, 1927 in Tuscola the daughter of Harry and Nellie Irene Howard Swisher. She was united in marriage to Harlan "Buzz" Bennett on June 19, 1950; he preceded her in death on January 20, 1987.
Survivors include her son, Rick Bennett and wife Patricia of Sullivan; granddaughter, Carrie Bennett and Tim Salsbury of Lerna; grandson, Craig Bennett and wife Elizabeth of Sullivan; 4 great grandchildren, Aspen Salsbury, Ashlyn, Lilly, and Harlan Dean Bennett. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Harriett "Lovie" Jones, Jessie Bass, Myrtle "Toots" Groves; and 4 brothers, Bill, Art, Paul, and Wayne Swisher.
Mabel graduated from Arcola High School. She worked at Walmart for 33 years and was given special recognition as the oldest employee and also helped set up the first Walmart in Mattoon. She was a member of the Humboldt Christian Church.
Mabel loved flowers, working in her yard, birdwatching, and especially loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed country western music and her favorite singer was Alan Jackson.
Memorials are suggested to Lincolnland Hospice or Camp New Hope.
