Marion Stanley Stephenson, 91, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Atwood, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Tuscola First Christian Church, 100 East Church Street, Tuscola, IL. Burial will follow at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the church. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Stan was born July 29, 1927 and spent his formative years in Atwood. He worked at the Tuscola National Bank and the Hammond State Bank before spending most of his career at the Atwood State Bank as a long-time cashier and loan officer, then CEO and Vice-President for the last 14 years of his career.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite Consistory and Ansar Shrine. Stanley was a US Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL. He was a member of the Tuscola First Christian Church.
Stan graduated from Atwood High School in 1945 and the University of Illinois-Urbana in 1950 and he married Mary White, ironically from Atwood, KS in 1953.
Stan leaves a loving and proud family. Surviving are Mary, his wife of 65 years, sons Dan (Jane) of Petersburg, Scott (Theresa) of Deland and daughter Annetta of Panama City Beach, FL. He is also survived by grand-children Khristi Boyer (Matt) of Tuscola, Matt Stephenson (Dee) of Bloomington, Stephanie Patterson (Mark) of Springfield, Susie Gotschall (Brian) of Edwardsville, Ethan Stephenson of Carbondale, Zachary Stephenson of Springfield and Alex Blaylock (Jeremiah) of Monticello, great grand-children include Braden Boyer, Raeanna Boyer, Marissa Boyer, Areanna Whitlock, Hope Whitlock and Emma Buchanan. And his sister Marilyn (Bill) Dunham of Prescott, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Charles Stephenson.
Memorials can be made to SAM Food Pantry or by donating blood in Stan's honor.
