Lyle James Huffman, 81, of Arthur, IL, passed away at 1:10 am, Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Vine Street Christian Church, Arthur, IL, with Rev. Dawn Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Shrader Funeral Home, 431 South Vine Street, Arthur, IL. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded.
Lyle was born on November 5, 1931 in Bushton, IL, the son of Roy and Viola Curtner Huffman. He married Ann Beals on September 27, 1953 in Arthur, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include his son: Kevin J. (Carol) Huffman of Arthur, daughter: Cheryl Ann Huffman of Champaign, granddaughter: Mary Elizabeth Huffman, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lorn and Larry Huffman, sisters: Ruby Groves, Opal Birdge and Helen Reimer.
Lyle was a retired farmer, having farmed in the Bourbon area for many years. He was a member and deacon at the Vine Street Christian Church. Lyle was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Tuscola Pinnochle Club, The Arthur Group, Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Board, Arthur American Legion Post, Bourbon-Lowe Township Cemetery Board and the Kaskaskia Country Club. Lyle was the past president of the Arthur School Board and was the State Bank of Arthur Farmer of the Year in 1989. He formerly was a seed salesman for PAG and Cargill Seeds. He also formerly worked at the Douglas County ASCS office and Progress Industries.
Lyle enjoyed farming, attending land auctions, gardening, grilling out, baking, golfing, and playing cards. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Fighting Illini fan and Chicago Bears fan.
Lyle enjoyed attending his granddaughter's activities and he loved his family very much.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Vine Street Christian Church, Arthur EMT Association, Arthur Lion's Club or the Arthur Home.
