Loyd Robert "Bob" Miller, 89, of Arcola, died at 9:42 PM Monday, July 9, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 13, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dorans, with Pastor Dan Fienan officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.
Bob was born October 31, 1922 in Coles County, the son of Loyd C. and Ruth Roberts Miller. He was united in marriage to Dolores "Dorie" Handley in Dorans on August 28, 1943; and she survives.
Besides his wife, Dorie, of Arcola; he is survived by son, Terry Miller of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter, Jane (Jack) McNary of Arcola; son, Dan (Maria) Miller of Arcola; grandchildren, Lori (Dan) Gordon of Vandalia; Bruce McNary of Arcola; Stephanie Miller of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Brock, Claire, and Clayton Miller all of Arcola; great grandchildren, Chase Miller of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Courtney and Curtis Gordon of Vandalia.
Bob was a lifetime farmer in Coles county and a lifelong supporter of Arcola athletics–he ran the clock for basketball and football for over 30 years. He was also passionate about the sport of horse racing in which he trained and was a driver of standardbred horses for 40 years. He was a member of the Arrol's Coffee Club and bowled on Arrol's team for many years.
