Loran "Pete" Metheny, 98, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 1:44 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL
Graveside services with military graveside rites will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney, IL. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL.
Pete was born on April 14, 1913 in LaPorte, IN, the son of Fred and Susan Glines Metheny. He married his wife: Gail J. Hopson in Washington, DC, where she worked as a Pentagon employee. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1994.
Survivors include his children: Linda (Richard) Metheny-Mulvihill of Eugene, OR, Robert "Bob" (Marge) Metheny of Cave-in-Rock, IL, Fred (Diana) Metheny of Tuscola, IL, Sara Metheny of Urbana, IL, and James "Jim" Metheny of Tuscola, IL. 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

Pete owned and operated many restaurants in Illinois during his lifetime. After retiring from his restaurant businesses, he was employed as a security guard at USI Chemical Company in Tuscola.
Pete was an avid reader, especially he enjoyed Louis L'Amour westerns. He enjoyed cooking and visiting with friends in his restaurants. Pete enjoyed gardening and sharing his home grown vegetables, fishing, hunting and visiting his cabin and land in Southern Illinois. He was a US Army Veteran, serving during World War II in Washington, DC.
