Lloyd Henry Lytle, 83, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the Newman Rehab and Health Care Center, Newman, IL
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Bruce Baumberger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, May 18, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be held at the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.
Lloyd was born near Bourbon, IL on July 21, 1923 to Charles Chester and Blanche Katheryn England Lytle. He graduated from Arcola High School in 1942. Lloyd served 2 1/2 years with the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theatre 4th Marines, 6th Marine Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He married Dorothy Baker on October 13, 1946 in Tuscola, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is a son: Gary Wayne Lytle and wife: Kim of Tuscola, IL, a daughter: Barbara Hutton and husband: Glenn of Tuscola, IL, five grandchildren: Jacqueline "Tina" Kestner of Lincoln, Jennifer Lewis and Stephanie Walker of both of Tuscola, Amy Beth Dueker of Urbana and Matthew Lytle of Mattoon. He leaves 3 great-grandchildren: Jordan Baker Lewis, Caitlan Marie Lewis and Neil Henry Walker all of Tuscola. A sister: Helen Clark of Kingman, AZ and a brother: Larry Lytle of Taylorville also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Rosamary and a brother: Glenn Lytle
Following World War II, Lloyd worked at the Arcola Foundry and Mfg. Co., Rayburn Auto and Implement Co. in Tuscola followed by 33 years at Quantum (USI), where he was known as "Sarg". A stroke forced him to retire in 1989.
Lloyd was a member of the Tuscola Volunteer Fire Department from 1952 until 1988; Treasurer of Local #515 IUOE for 28 years; Life Member of the Villa Grove VFW Post #2876 and a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church.
