Lindsey was born April 15, 1928 in Moultrie County, the son of Virgil and Olney Wray Daugherty. He was united in marriage to Janice A. Phillips on November 30, 1952, in Arthur, and they moved to Decatur.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Daugherty of Arthur; 2 daughters, Becky Kay Gustafson of Mililani Town, Hawaii; Vicky Lynn Bright and husband Steve of Arcola; grandchildren, Patrick Bright of Portage, Indiana; Sabrina, Elizabeth, and Virginia Gustafson all of Mililani Town, Hawaii; and Alexander Gustafson of Long Beach, California.
Lindsey attended Arthur High School for his Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years, and after moving with his parents to Niantic, graduated from Niantic High School in 1947.
Lindsey worked for B.B. Burns Chrysler Dealership in the Parts Department in the late 1940s.
He was drafted into the Army on November 17, 1950 and served as Staff Sargeant with the 7th Division Tank Company until his discharge in November, 1952. Lindsey returned to B.B. Burns Chrysler and worked as a traveling Parts Salesman to what he called "MOM & POP" garages, serving mechanics from Decatur to the Western Indiana state line.
Lindsey then went to work with Decatur's newest company, Caterpillar. He enjoyed a wonderful relationship with fellow CAT employees, retiring in 1985. Lindsey returned to the Arthur area to farm in April, 1972 where he enjoyed farming until 2001. However, he never gave up his love of keeping his yard and roadsides beautifully mowed.
Lindsey's passions was to watch Spring arrive and the waking up of his trees, yard, and his acres of black earth which would come alive with the planting of corn and soybeans–the miracle of Life would again begin.
Memorials are suggested to Vine Street Christian Church Kitchen Remodeling Fund; Arthur Public Library; or the Caterpillar Retiree Club (CRC).
