Lester Benton Shutt, 87, of Arthur, died at 9:16 AM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Arthur Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. John Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Shutt was born Sept. 21, 1923 in Girard, the son of Roy and Ethel England Shutt. He married Norma Jane Bell in Virden on Dec. 31, 1949; she preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1992. He then married Norma Yerly in Springfield on Sept. 18, 1994 and she survives.

Besides his wife Norma Shutt of Arthur, survivors include one son, Jim (Anita) Shutt of Kalamazoo, Michigan; daughter, Janice (Larry) Miller of Arthur; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Doty of Los Angeles, California; 2 stepsons, Donald (Karen) Yerly of Morton; Scott (Rachel) Yerly of Fairview; stepdaughter, Nancy Alber of Morton; 7 step grandchildren; and 6 step great grandchildren.

Mr. Shutt retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. where he was a measurement technician. He was a member of the Arthur First Baptist Church, Arthur American Legion Post #479, and Arthur Masonic Lodge. He served in the US Army during World War II and was taken prisoner of war at Battle of the Bulge.
