Leona R. Benner, 85, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:00 a.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL
Mrs. Benner was born on December 24, 1923 to James and Emily Peddycoart Garrett. She married Walter V. Benner on August 2, 1941 in Rising Fawn, GA. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1993.
She was the loving mother of Linda Kay Hula of Elberta, AL; Phillip Michael Benner of Foley, AL, Kim Edwin Benner and Roger Vernon Benner both of Atwood, IL. She has 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She has three surviving sisters: Rachel Selle, Florence Shutt and Betty Pflum. She was a member of the Cartwright United Methodist Church until it closed.
Leona worked at the University of Illinois for 26 years and retired in 1988.
