Larry William Gibson, 70, of Champaign, formerly of Arcola, died at 1:20 PM Thursday, December 26, 2013, at his residence in Champaign.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Chapel in Danville with Rev. Drew Menzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Danville National Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Danville American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Larry was born July 26, 1943 in Arcola the son of William and Imogene Lynch Gibson.
Survivors include his brother, Donald (Shirley) Gibson of Danville; two daughters, Nancy Gibson of San Francisco, California; and Susan Gibson of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and infant Ronald.
Larry was a U.S. Army veteran. After returning from the service, he worked at the Bus Station and J.M. Jones. He later joined the University of Illinois Campus Police Force and retired after 25 years as a Lieutenant and shift commander in 2000. He also taught Law enforcement at Parkland College and was a golf instructor at the University of Illinois.
The sun rose and set with the University of Illinois, with golf being a close second along with the Cubs, Bears, and Indy-type racing rounding out his loves.
