Kenneth J. Maier, 85, of Arcola, died at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Arcola Health Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Arcola Cemetery with Pastor Ivan Jess officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kenny was born April 3, 1929 in Thomasboro, the son of Fred and Pearl Keith Maier. He married Betty Lou Vickroy on November 23, 1963 at St. John's Catholic Church in Arcola.

He is survived by his wife Betty Maier of Arcola; sister, Helen Fortney of Marietta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and a great niece, Bailey Jean Rogers of Arcola. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Maier, two sisters, Lorene Sears and infant Eula Maier.

Kenny was a graduate of Arcola High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned home to farm. He was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1994. Kenny enjoyed playing golf.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Mattoon VFW Post, Eagles, and Moose Club of Mattoon.
