Obituary

Juanita Amanda (McCoskey) Conner, 97, of Tuscola, formerly of Arcola, died at 9:15 AM Thursday, October 31, 2013 at her residence in Tuscola.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 4, 2013 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Gary Livesay officiating. Burial will follow in the VanVoorhis Cemetery, rural Hindsboro. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.



Juanita was born October 26, 1916 in Hindsboro, the daughter of Frank and Alice (Taylor) VanVoorhis. She married Russell Elza McCoskey in Oakland on August 8, 1934; he preceded her in death on January 17, 1978. She then married Edgar Conner in Hindsboro on October 29, 1983; he preceded her in death on November 4, 2012.



Survivors include 3 children, Joe (Sue) McCoskey of Hindsboro; Ann (Carroll) Livesay of Mattoon; Jack (Margie) McCoskey of Humboldt; 2 step children, Charles "Chub" (Suzanne) Conner of Mattoon; Sharon (Phil) Schwengel of Champaign; 10 grandchildren, Martie and Larry Miller of Hindsboro; Lena and Kenny Hettinger of Hindsboro; Loretta and John Fishel of Arcola; Gary and Valerie Livesay of Quincy; Brenda and Mike Ferguson of Oviedo, Florida; Jerrell and Denise Livesay of Trimble, Missouri; Valerie Sweatt of Edwardsville; Melanie and Edward Spencer of Trilla; Eric and Lianne McCoskey of Aurora; Amber and Aaron Puttcamp of Waverly, Pennsylvania; 25 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 19 step great grandchildren; and 4 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and 1 great granddaughter.



Juanita was Valedictorian of the Hindsboro Class of 1934. She retired from Arcola Collegiate Cap & Gown on March 30, 1983 as a floor supervisor after 35 years of employment.



Juanita was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for the special Christmas gifts she made for all the grandchildren of three generations. She was an accomplished seamstress and great cook and opened her home for family dinners and reunions.

A special thanks to Kathy Reeves for caring for Juanita for the last year of her life.
