Joyce Marilynn Archibald, 89, of Villa Grove, IL, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Amber Glen Special Care Center, Urbana, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with Pastor Mike Zylstra and Pastor Darrell Hinkle officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.
Mrs. Archibald was born on October 31, 1925 in Tuscola, IL the daughter of James Edward and Lucretia Warne Hackett.
She married Francis C. Archibald on June 29, 1946 in Tuscola, IL. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2008.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Sue Ellen Taylor and husband: Randy of Champaign; Linda Lu Dilliner and husband: John of Villa Grove; Celeste Ann Rogers and husband: Tim of Tuscola.
Mrs. Archibald was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Gladys Hackett, Opal Clapper, Weldon Hackett, Montelle Hackett, Carl Hackett and Harold Hackett. Joyce was the last surviving member of the second generation of her immediate family.
Joyce graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1941. She then began working for Western Union in Maywood, IL. Upon getting married she and her husband began their lives together, farming in the Villa Grove area for nearly 70 years. Joyce also established her own business as tax preparer and consultant. She did payroll and bookkeeping for many years at Huber and Sloan. She later worked at the Pesotum Mutual Insurance Company in Villa Grove.
Joyce was a very active member of the Villa Grove First Christian Church for over 65 years. She taught Sunday school, directed VBS, prepared Communion, assisted in the nursery and served as Financial Secretary for over 30 of those years.
Joyce was an active member in her community. She volunteered at the annual Pancake Festival for many years. She served in various capacities at the local school, including the Villa Grove PTA. She also served as an election judge. Her other interests included watching and attending U of I sporting events.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Eberhardt Village, Amber Glen Special Care Center and Harbor Light Hospice for showing concern and providing excellent care to their mother.
