Obituary

Joseph H. Fortney, 77, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 1:15 P.M., Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL

Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 P.M., Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Tuscola First Christian Church, 101 East Church Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Scott Zorn officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM, Sunday at the church. Private burial services will be held at the Arcola Cemetery, Arcola, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Fortney was born on November 24, 1929 in Arcola, IL, the son of Millard H. and Vivian M. Rennels Fortney. He married Dorothy Jean Campbell on October 28, 1950 in Chesterville, IL. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2004. He married Jeannine Alldredge Shaffer on October 8, 2005 in Tuscola, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include 1 Son: Michael Fortney and wife: Shelley of Monticello, IL, 2 Daughters: Marsha Hershey and husband: Timothy of Taylorville, IL, Tamara Fortney of Laguna Niguel, CA, 4 Grandchildren: Stacie Threlfall, Lindsey Fortney, Phillip Fortney and Lucas Fortney, 2 Brothers: James Fortney of Marietta, GA, Dr. William Robert Fortney of State College, PA, 1 Sister: Dr. Virginia Fortney of State College, PA, 1 Step-Son: Craig Munsey of Carmi, IL, 3 Step-Daughters: Phyllis Truitt of Tuscola, IL, Lynn Schaefer of Tolono, IL, Julie Beyer of Peach Tree City, GA, 9 Step-Grandchildren, 4 Step-Great-Grandchildren

He was preceded by his Parents and 1 Brother: Millard H. Fortney

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Tuscola First Christian Church or the Tuscola First Christian Church Landscaping Fund

Mr. Fortney retired from Quantum-USI Chemical Company in Tuscola, IL, where he worked as a welder for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked as a real estate agent for Wright Real Estate, Tuscola, IL. He served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. He was a 50 year member of the Tuscola First Christian Church. He was also a member of the Tuscola Kiwanis Club, Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332, AF & AM, Primetimers and member and former board member of the Douglas County Museum Association. Joe was a avid fisherman and hunter, lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and he loved antiques.
