Obituary

John Frederick Schultz, 92, of Arthur, died at 3:52 PM Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Zion United Church of Christ, 701 N Co Rd 250E, Arthur, with Pastor Dennis Hanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Church Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be held just prior to the funeral service. Visitation will be held from 10:00-1l:00 AM at the church. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.

John was born April 5, 1918 in Douglas County, the son of Henry C. and Anna M. Ernst Schultz. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Murphy in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 20, 1940.

Survivors include his wife Mary Schultz of Tuscola; daughter, Darlene Uphoff and husband Ron of Charleston; 2 grandchildren, Jon Ronald Uphoff and wife Nikki of Charleston; Linda Jane Hart and fiance` William House of Mattoon; 4 great grandchildren, Derek Hardin; Curtis, Jonah, and Veronica Uphoff; 3 great great grandchildren, Ethan, Kaelyn, and Owen Hardin; and 1 sister, Leona Hughes of Arthur. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

John owned and operated Schultz & Howell Implement Dealership in Arthur. After retiring in 1969, he sold real estate for 10 years. He was a 50-year member of the Arthur Masonic Lodge #825 AF&AM and a member of the Kaskaskia Country Club where he had served as former president and board member. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and had served as a board member. John loved to play golf.
