Obituary
John Gary Knaus, 59, of Illiopolis, formerly of Arcola, died at 3:17 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Gary was born January 1, 1950 in Tuscola, the son of Roy Walter and Evelyn Mae Hampton Knaus.
Survivors include his brother, Mark Knaus and wife Sharon of Effingham; 2 daughters, Kimberly Thompson and husband Phillip of Charleston, Kylie Young and husband David of Chatham; granddaughter, Sydney Thompson; and long-time friend, Kathy Daugherty of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was a graduate of Arcola High School Class of 1968. He was a certified pipe welder for 30 years and was employed by All Tri R Co. of Pana. He was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post of Springfield. He was an Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
