Obituary

John William Hove, 74, of Arcola, died at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Arthur Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Arcola United Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Stump officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola. Burial will be in the Highland Garden of Memories Cemetery in Belvidere on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.

John was born July 14, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of John Everett and Mary Grush Hove. He married Diane Hewitt in Madison, Wisconsin on August 20, 1966; she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Hove of Arcola; 2 sons, Scott (Stephany) Hove of Tuscola; Steve Hove of Galva; granddaughter, Avery Hove; brother, Donald Hove of Belvidere.

John graduated from Belvidere High School in 1963 and the Wisconsin State University in 1967 with a degree in Agri Business. He worked as a geneticist for Illinois Foundation Seeds from 1967-1981. He then worked for Florida Hybrid Services from 1981-1983 in Lake Worth, Florida. He retired from Effingham Equity in 2006 after 11 years.

John was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Methodist Men. He was a former member of the Monticello Lions Club and also past president of the Arcola Lions Club and served as a Foundation Trustee

John enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, creating custom framing, square dancing, trap shooting, photography, and travel. He was a Kansas City Barbeque Judge and competitor. John facilitated pork chop dinners for local community fund raisers.

Memorials are suggested to the Arcola United Methodist Church or the Arcola Lions Club.
