John A. Hornaday, 89, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Savoy, IL, passed away at 11:18 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Bob Williams officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL

John was born on March 11, 1926 in Columbus, IN, the son of Louis A. and Lillian Agnes Biddle Hornaday. He married Kathleen Barber on August 12, 1949 in Manlius, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Greg (Gayle) Hornaday of Henderson, NV, Brad (Terry) Hornaday of Tuscola and Allyson (Dave) Rotramel of Champaign, 7 grandchildren: Ryan, Brad, Lauren, Chad, Joel, Erik and Drew, 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a retired schoolteacher, coach and guidance counselor. He received his bachelor's degree from Huntington University, Huntington, IN and his master's degree in education from the University of Illinois.

He formerly coached and taught at Leaf River, Neoga, Edison Middle School and Champaign Central High School. John had dedicated over 30 years at the Champaign Unit 4 School District. He played for many years in the senior softball league. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign, Savoy.

John proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy.
John was an avid Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan.
