John Edgar Hendrickson, 83, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 1:10 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Imboden Creek Living Center, Decatur, IL

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church, 205 South Pine Street, Arcola, IL, with Father Barry Harmon as celebrant. A Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, January 2, 2012 with visitation following from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL.

John was born on September 7, 1928 in Moultrie County, IL, the son of Harold E. "Red" and Irene Swanz Hendrickson. He married Phyllis VonLanken. He then married L. Jean Cook Reeder on June 15, 1977 in Decatur, IL.

Survivors include his wife, son: Gary L. Hendrickson of Suzhou, China, daughter: Margaret A. Kamm and husband: Howard of Atwood, IL, step-son: Kevin Reeder and wife: Debby of Waukesha, WI, grandchildren: Melissa Kamm, Kimberly (Shawn) Robinson, James (Joan) Reeder and Joseph (Shannon) Reeder, six great-grandchildren: Jordan Reeder, Grace Reeder, Evan Reeder, Aiden Reeder, Ian Reeder and Riley Robinson, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and a great-granddaughter: Gabriella Reeder.

Memorials are suggested to: St. John's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or Donor's Choice.

John farmed for over 60 years. He retired from USI Chemical Company in Tuscola, where he worked for 35 years as a process engineer. John was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Arthur Masonic Lodge, Springfield Ansar Shrine and the Danville Consistory. He retired after serving 30 years as the commander for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, 2nd western district.

He was an avid bird watcher and he loved animals of all kinds.
