Obituary

John Joseph Hausman, 82, passed away at Tuscola Health Care Center on Friday morning, June 19, 2009.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main, Tuscola.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 E. Van Allen, Tuscola, with Father Barry Harmon as celebrant.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pesotum.

John was born January 1, 1927 in Hayes, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Anna (Hartman) Hausman of Pesotum, Illinois. He married Nancy Joan Rice on Nov. 26, 1949 in Pesotum.

Survivors include his wife; his sister Agnes Day of Champaign; daughter Barbara Mix (Nate) of Ithaca, NY; son Joseph Hausman (Cathy) of Pesotum; son James Hausman (Carol) of Springfield, IL; daughter Kathleen Kocher (Myron) of Tuscola; son Chris Hausman (Evonne) of Pesotum; daughter Sarah Robinson of Normal, IL; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Ann Feeney and Betty Lou Ducey, his son Thomas Hausman, and his great-grandson, Thomas Kocher.

John was engaged in farming, having farmed in the Pesotum area all of his life. He was a long-time active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pesotum, serving as organist, choir member, and trustee, and was recognized with the Pere Marquette Award for "dedicated service to the Diocese of Peoria."
He served in the Illinois National Guard and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Deputy, and member of the Degree Team for various councils.

John was member of the Class of 1944 from the Tuscola Community High School and was a lifetime member of the Tuscola Moose Lodge.
John performed many varieties of community service over the years, acting as a member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau, Pesotum Volunteer Fire Department, and the Unit 7 School Board, as well as serving as Pesotum Township Drainage Commissioner and the leader of the Pesotum 4-H Club.

He served on the Board of Directors for both the First National Bank of Villa Grove and the Villa Grove State Bank, and was a contributor to the Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation and the University of Illinois JBT Scholarship Program.
John was passionate about music, organizing and leading the John Hausman Orchestra in the late 1940's and entertaining many over the years at the piano. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, brain teasers, and a good game of chess. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather and was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and actively supported their many activities.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Forty Martyrs Church or Donor's Choice.
