Obituary

John Robert "Bob" Taylor, 102, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 1:45 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Ted Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.

Bob was born on May 2, 1912 in Petersburg, IL, the son of the late William and Edna Lewis Taylor. He married Drusilla Smith on August 7, 1938 in Tuscola, IL. She preceded him in death on February 11, 1985.

Bob received his master's degree in math from the University of Illinois. He was a math, PE teacher, football, basketball and track coach at the Champaign Jr. High School for 35 years. He helped to start Little League Baseball in Tuscola. After retiring from teaching, he worked for the Department of Public Aid for 10 years.
He loved the game of golf and played once a week until he was 96 years old. He played bridge and followed the Illini football and basketball teams. Bob was a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church, Kaskaskia Country Club, Tri-City Country Club and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his son: Jerry "Gunner" Taylor and wife Shirley of Arcola, IL, grandchildren: Taylor Yelnick and wife: Julie of Palos Park, IL, Marissa Yelnick of Chicago, IL and Jennifer Booker-Smith and husband Jason of Bloomington, IL, great-grandchildren: Addie and Adrian Yelnick; Calder, Christina and Feifer Smith

He was preceded in death by his daughter Candy Yelnick in 2006.

A special thank you to all the staff at the Tuscola Health Care Center for the excellent care they gave to Dad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
