Obituary

John W. Binder, 73, of Hammond, IL, passed away at 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Mason Point, Sullivan, IL

Celebration of Life and Masonic Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Hammond United Methodist Church, Hammond, IL, with Rev. Linda Peyla officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is assisting the family.

John was born on September 2, 1939 in Sullivan, IL, the son of John A. and Leora England Binder. He married Sue A. Gillen on October 20, 1961 in Decatur, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Chris Ellis and husband: Kevin of Hammond, IL, Johnny Binder of Decatur, IL, Jerry Binder of Mt. Zion, IL, and Jeffrey Binder and wife: Trish of Cape Coral, FL, 11 grandchildren: Brad Ellis, Lindsey Walk, Brittany Bartley, Johnathon Binder, Tyler Binder, Jordan Binder, Leslie Richardson, Mitchell Binder, Kaleigh Koetting, Alissa Koetting and John Koetting, 8 great-grandchildren, brother: Carl Binder of Hammond, IL, sisters: Mary Lou Powers of Kentucky and Faye Lindstrom of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Phillip Binder.

John retired from B & O Railroad, where he worked as a clerk and yardmaster and he also farmed for many years. He was a member of the Hammond United Methodist Church, Arthur Masonic Lodge #825, AF & AM, Tri-County Shrine Club, Ansar Shrine and the Retired Railroad Employees Club.

John enjoyed farming, gardening and playing with his many grandchildren. He also loved helping others, being around people and having a good conversation.

Memorials are suggested to the Hammond United Methodist Church.
