John William "Bill" Dallas of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 10:14 pm, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 101 East Church Street, Sadorus, IL, with Pastor Bill Gauger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm, Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Burial will be in the Lewis Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
Bill was born on January 16, 1929 in Wayne County, Illinois, the son of James Harrison "Harry" and Anna Elizabeth Troutt Dallas. He married Edna LaVerne Nofftz on April 2, 1952 in Sadorus, IL. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2009.
Bill is survived by his children: Larry of Tuscola, Larayne (Tim DeFries) of Austin, TX, Lyndall (Marsha) of Lincoln, IL, David of Tuscola, IL, five grandchildren: John Dallas, Kelsey Dallas, Christa DeFries, Natalie DeFries and Anna DeFries; and a brother: Jim Dallas of Tuscola.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Bill was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, where he served with Headquarters Co, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry, 2nd Division.
Bill worked as a carpenter with Lake Construction and later K.O. Lake from the time he got out of the Army until his retirement and was known as an excellent finish carpenter. He raised livestock most of that time and also helped his sons farm after his retirement. During his life, he went from driving a team of horses to driving a four wheel drive tractor.
