Joan (Runyan) Wilson passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana, IL. Her daughter Barbara Patton was at her side when she found peace. Death was due to a brain injury suffered in a fall at her home on January 19, 2012.

Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) was born on January 27, 1935 in Bourbon, IL to Raymond "Jake" and Quitera "Teddy" Waters. She was the 6th child and 3rd daughter in a family of 8 children.


Joan graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1953 and married Norwood "Kelly" Kellogg. They had three children, Barbara (Kellogg) Patton, John Kellogg (deceased 1981) and Janice Kellogg (deceased 1960). They divorced and she married William "Bill" Runyan, Sr. They had two sons, William Runyan Jr. and Jay (deceased 2013). Bill Sr. passed away in 2002. Joan married Dave Wilson of Tavares, FL in October of 2011. He survives.


Additional survivors include daughter Barbara (Alan) Patton of Tuscola, IL, grandson Christopher ((Kimberly) Patton and their daughter Reese and twin sons Charles and Owen of Monticello, IL, and granddaughter Jamie Patton of Chicago, IL; son William (Carol) Runyan Jr. of Kingston, TN, Daughter in-law Nicole Runyan and grandson Joshua of Crown Point, IN; stepchildren Wayne "Butch" Runyan of Highland, IN, Vicki Runyan of Colorado, Mike Runyan of Knoxville, TN and Wendy (Bill) Runyan Marsh of Tuscola, IL; Deb (Frank) Wilson Jackson of Newark, OH and Sandi Wilson Ritchie of Normal, IL. Survivors also include three sisters, Redith "Peggy" (Don Roderick) of Champaign, IL, Mary Waters of Urbana, IL and Marilyn "Toppy" Mooday of Tuscola, IL. Additional survivors includes numerous nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, step nieces and step nephews.


In addition to her two sons and daughter, Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert, James and Raymond Dean, sister Ruth Weatherford and stepson Ron Runyan.

While in high school, Joan worked for Rogers Grocery Store and The Strand Theater, both in Tuscola. While living in Schererville, IN, she worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper and a Real Estate Agent. When she and Bill moved to the Brittany Estates Retirement Park in Leesburg, FL, she worked as a bookkeeper for Pat's Sales before retiring.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
