Joan Whitley, 94, of Tuscola, formerly of Atwood, passed away on Friday morning, May 3, 2024 at Brookstone Estates, Tuscola, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Atwood, 231 North Illinois Street, Atwood with Dr. Lanny Faulkner and Rev. Woody White officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, IL

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.

Joan was born on February 25, 1930 in Mattoon, the daughter of John L. and Ruth Malone Ashworth. She was the oldest of six children. She married Richard L. Whitley on December 14, 1952. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2002.

Surviving are her two brothers, Robert and Clint Ashworth both of Missouri. Joan was preceded in death by her brother: Ed Ashworth from Missouri and sisters: Jean Hall and Betty Fuller of Mattoon.

Also surviving are three children, Douglas L, Whitley (Joanne) of Northport MI, Kathleen Diane (Robert) Little of Tuscola and R. Mark (Sandy) Whitley of Chatham, grandchildren: Dana, Benjamin and Mark Whitley, Heather Poole, R. Zane and Zachary Whitley, great-grandchildren, Michael, Marisa and Mason Poole, Bennett, Elliott, Colton, Jacob and Zoey Whitley. Joan had two grandsons who preceded her in death. Their names were John and Michael Whitley.

Joan's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life.

Joan's favorite hobby growing up was riding horses and participating in rodeos. Her favorite hobby quickly became her grandchildren. Joan's grandchildren and great- grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was an active, 65-year member of the First Baptist Church of Atwood. She was a proud member of the Atwood American Legion Women's Auxiliary. For the past 5 years, Joan has been a member of the Tuscola McDonald's afternoon coffee club and enjoyed all of her friends there.
