Joan R. Mulligan, 83, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on March 3, 2018, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 600 East Northline Road, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Jason Braaten officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Gridley Cemetery, Gridley, IL.
Mrs. Mulligan was born on April 1, 1934, in Gridley, IL, the daughter of Henry and Rosa Heinrich Wright. She married Dean Mulligan on June 5, 1955, in Chenoa, IL.
Survivors include her children: Cheryl (Dave) Bozarth of Tuscola, IL; Jody (Mark) Furlong of Chicago, IL; Terry Mulligan of Kelso, WA (soon to again be of Tuscola, IL) and Mindy Mulligan of Portland, OR; 5 grandchildren: Jordan Bozarth, Justin (Aja) Bozarth, Ryan (Dereck) Furlong, Lauren (Alex) Prior, and Caitlin Furlong; 4 great-granddaughters: Isabel, Mia, and Lillian Bozarth, and Olivia Prior; brother-in-law Ronald Mulligan of Federal Way, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Mulligan; her parents, Rosa and Henry Wright; brother, William Wright; sister, Ruth Kiefer and husband Donald; brother, Harold Wright and wife Rosie; and sister-in-law, Eileen Todd and husband Lyle.
Joan was a homemaker and the secretary for her husband's insurance agency for 40 plus years with the Principal Life Insurance Company. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tuscola, where she served on the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and on various committees. She was a long-term election judge for Douglas County. She loved to play bridge and do crossword and other word puzzles. She loved to attend her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's sports and school activities. She was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Fighting Illini, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Bulls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 303 N. Hershey Road, Suite 2A, Bloomington, IL 61704 or Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tuscola.
