Jo Ellen Seaman, 66, of Arthur, died at 4:48 AM on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Arthur United Methodist Church with Reverends Bruce Weiman and Leroy Allison officiating. Private interment will be at a later date. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jo Ellen was born February17, 1949 to Ralph Richard (Bud) and Ellen Jane Hendrickson Seaman. She was the oldest of five siblings. Jo attended school in Arthur, Illinois and furthered her college education at Illinois State, obtaining her Masters in Education. She began her career in 1971 teaching Agriculture in Goodridge, Minnesota, followed by Spring Grove, Minnesota. She was the first female to teach Agriculture in the State of Minnesota. In 1980 she moved back to her hometown of Arthur and continued teaching. She taught Ag and Math in both Arthur and Atwood.
Jo loved teaching and taking her students to judging events, conventions, and many other activities. During her career, she had many Star Farmers in the Ag Program. She held many offices in Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers and the National Vocational Ag Teachers Association, including president and treasurer. She was also a volleyball coach for the Junior High and High School Volleyball Teams. She was a hugh Knight fan, even after retirement she followed the Knights on the Round Table and Facebook.
Jo is survived by Britta Stenutz, Kay, Marcus and Milan; siblings, Dee Ann (Mike) Daily; Dennis (Nancy) Seaman; eight nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; and Aunt Roberta (Dwight) Hollenbeck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Butch Seaman; sister, April Seaman; nephew, Jeremy Seaman; grandparents, Wilbur and Norma (Granny and Papa) Hendrickson; Ralph and Martha Seaman; and her uncle, Dean Hendrickson; and her loyal companion, Litttle Bit.
