Jean Louise (Blagg) Ghere, 88, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Villa Grove passed away at 6:45 pm, Monday, August 3, 2015 at Gowin Parc, Mattoon, IL.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday morning, August 7, 2015 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church with Pastor Ted Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
Mrs. Ghere was born on September 30, 1926 in Morgan, Township, south of Hindsboro, IL, the daughter of Grover and Sarah Jane (Beavers) Blagg. She married her high school sweetheart, Russell Ghere, on June 29, 1944 at Camp Hulen Army Base in Palacios, TX. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1999.
She is survived by her son Bob (Suzanne) Ghere of Chillicothe, IL, daughter Becky (Steve) Hettinger of Tuscola, IL; six grandchildren: Shayne (Denise) Ghere of Pekin, IL, Shara (Kevin) Andrews of Mobile, AL, Shannon Ghere of Peoria, IL, Chad (Felicia) Ghere of Mapleton, IL Jennifer (Michael) Thomas of Tuscola, IL and Doug (Beth) Hettinger of Mattoon, IL; Grandson-in-law: Jim Manning of Chillicothe, IL. Nine great-grandchildren, one brother Tom Blagg of Arcola, IL and two sisters-in-law Mardel Blagg and Elsie Ghere both of Arcola, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
Jean was very active in her church at Villa Grove where she was President of the United Methodist Women and on the District UMW Board of Directors. She also sat on the Board of Directors at Cunningham Children's Home, was a member of the Women's Auxiliary AM VETS Post 22 of Villa Grove, Douglas County Republican Women, Douglas County Jail Ministry, and a MOPS Mentor.
After moving to Tuscola she continued her service in the Tuscola United Methodist Church with MOPS Mentoring program, UMW as well as donating her time to S.A.M Pantry. She met many friends by enjoying lunches at the Sr. Citizens Center and while living at Jarman Senior Living Center and Gowin Parc Memory Care Community. Jean enjoyed leading and participating in Bible studies, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Her witness to others was a small white cross she would crochet and give to people to remind them Jesus loved them and so did she. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
