Jane L. Edgar, 99, of Mattoon, formerly of Arcola, passed quietly to her heavenly home at
8:10 am Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
Graveside services will be held at 5:30 PM Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Humboldt Cemetery. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jane was born December 16, 1916 in Salem, the daughter of Roy and Grace Smith. She married Morris L. Edgar in Lafayette, Indiana in 1954; he preceded her in death in 1965.
She is survived by 2 sons, Mark L. (Julie) Edgar of Dallas, Texas; Timothy C. Edgar of Hindsboro; 2 grandchildren, Michelle Stephanie Edgar and Morris Santiago Edgar; 3 nephews, Roy, Tom, and Mike Smith; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Smith.
Jane graduated from Eastern Illinois Teachers College and taught elementary school for 35 years, starting in Rardin and finishing in the Mattoon School Systems. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Mattoon Moose Club.
Memorials are suggested to Jane Edgar Memorial Fund c/o Tim Edgar, PO Box 143, Hindsboro, IL 61930 in lieu of flowers.
