James Marvin Sanders, 90, of Arthur, died at 12:20 PM, Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy where he had been a resident for the last 3 years.

There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Humboldt Cemetery with Rev. Dawn Ingram officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.

James was born June 7, 1924 in Humboldt, the son of John H. and Carrie Wilcoxen Sanders. He married Margaret Louise Alcorn on February 19, 1966 in Champaign. She preceded him in death on November 16, 2014 after 48 years of marriage.

Survivors include his stepson, Everett Dale (Connie) McElroy of Champaign; stepdaughter, Gwen (Jerry) Ray of Arthur; grandsons, Justin (Lisa) Ray of Arthur; Bradley (Amy) McElroy of Champaign; granddaughter, Shelby Ray of Oswego; 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Sanders.

James was a graduate of Arcola High School. He was a member of the Vine Street Christian Church; Order of the Eastern Star; and 50-year member of the Arthur Masonic Lodge. He retired from Cabot Corporation in 1983 after 15 years of service.

James served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March, 1944 until February, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his valor in Italy.
