He then graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO, in 1968, with his doctorate in chiropractic. He began his chiropractic career in Springfield, IL, in 1969. In 1973, Dr. McCumber and his wife, Brinda, returned to their hometown of Tuscola, where they raised their two sons, Scott and Stephen, and where he practiced until 1996. At that time, he sold his practice to Dr. William Hemmer and his wife, Cindy, and moved to Sarasota, FL. In 2001, he returned to Springfield, IL, to again practice with Drs. Robert and Timothy Wenneborg at the Springfield Chiropractic Clinic. He retired in 2009 and moved to Bradenton, FL. Due to Jim's health issues with Parkinson's disease, they returned to Tuscola in 2012.

In 1969, Jim received Christ as his savior and became an active teacher of the Bible. He played the slide trombone for eight years and later sang in an a cappella men's gospel quartet for many years. He was an avid sports fan and lifetime supporter of the Illini, Cubs, and Chicago Bears. Jim loved to read on a variety of subjects, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and his boxer dogs. Jim was a man of excellent character. He was optimistic, intelligent, and generous. His sense of humor was central to his personality. He thoroughly enjoyed his patients and loved his family. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Until we meet again …
