James J. "Jim" Quick, 86, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 8:33 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until time of services. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
Mr. Quick was born in rural Piatt County on December 11, 1923, the son of Guy W. and Elizabeth Kamm Quick.
Jim was a member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ. He was a past deacon and moderator of the church. He was a member of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770. He served in the US Army during World War II in the 103rd infantry division and the 5th infantry division in the European Conflict. He was a farmer for 30 years. He was President of the Illinois Spotted Poland China Association for 7 years. He worked at USI in Tuscola, IL, in the Polymer Service Laboratory for 15 years. Jim was past owner of the Funk Insurance Agency in Atwood. Mr. Quick was a board member of the Central Illinois Mutual Insurance Company. He was a past member of the Atwood Lions Club, having served as past president and past treasurer. He was a past member of the Atwood Chamber of Commerce and past member of the Atwood Economic Development Corporation.
Jim married Janet Chandler in Arthur, IL on November 1, 1947. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2008.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Janet, parents, son: Reed Kevin Quick, daughter: Karen Gage Quick, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Memorials are suggested to the Lake Fork United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.
