Rev. James Edward Hays, 87, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Murdock, IL, passed away at 4:05 am, Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Murdock Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded.
Rev. Hays was born on August 2, 1924 in Murdock, IL, the son of Voyles C. and Nettie Irene Derby Hays. He married Carol Sanders on August 19, 1949 in Mattoon, IL. She preceded him in death on November 1, 1993. He then married Joyce E. Jenkins on September 3, 1994 in Charleston, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include a son: John W. Hays and wife: Patty of Broomfield, CO, two daughters: Marsha Vollmer and husband: Steve of Atwood, IL and Jean Titus and husband: Terry of Sullivan, IL, 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, one brother: Rev. Robert Hays of Charleston, IL, two sisters: Joan Sanders of Prospect, KY and Jane Hoffman of Indiana, three step-sons: Tom Johnson, Mark Johnson and Rodney Johnson all of Tucson, AZ, step-daughter: Barb Moulton of Collinsville, IL
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Duane Hays.
Rev. James was a World War II US Army Veteran. He pastored numerous churches and was also a barber for many years.
