James Richard Hawkins, age 46, a cherished son, brother, uncle, fiancé, grandson, nephew, and friend passed away suddenly on August 8th, 2024 in Shenzhen, China.  James was known for his sense of humor, kindness, creativity, love of adventure, and passion for travel.

James was born on May 12, 1978 in Urbana, IL.  After graduating from Morton High School in 1996, he went on to graduate from Eastern Illinois University.  In 2016, he completed a program to teach internationally and fulfilled his dream to move to China.  He spent the past eight years teaching young children and exploring the world.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dennis and Debra Crnkovich, his sisters Amanda Derrick (Dan) and Kaitlyn Crnkovich, his niece Paighton Derrick, his fiancé Morin, and his grandmothers: Kaye Dick and Marge Hawkins, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

James was predeceased by his father, Richard Hawkins, and grandfathers Sam Dick and Boyd Hawkins.

As James prioritized living life to the fullest, travel, and adventure, the family asks that you do the same.  Find a new hobby you enjoy, take a trip, spend time with those you love- each day is a gift.  If you have a favorite memory of James, please share it with us.

A private family burial and celebration of life will take place in Tuscola on September 21st.
