James Donald Gulley, 86, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 12:13 pm, Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Dennis Hanner officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am until noon on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be held at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL. The family requests casual attire for Don's service.
Don was born on June 22, 1923 in Clemensville, TN, the son of Sam and Minerva Turner Gulley. He married Helen Holler on November 17, 1949 in Frankfort, Germany. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1980.
Survivors include his sons: Bob Gulley of Decatur, IL, Gary (Connie) Gulley of Decatur, IL, Glenn Gulley of New York, NY, 3 Grandsons: Jeff, Jason and Tim Gulley, 1 Great-Granddaughter: Georgette Gulley, 1 Brother: Lynn Gulley of Tuscola, IL, 2 Sisters: Betty Myers of Urbana, IL and Virginia Mulvaney of Windsor, IL
He was also preceded in death by his parents, 1 son: Dennis Gulley, 5 brothers and 1 sister
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Don was the owner and president of Municipal Electronics in Decatur, which he has operated since 1980. He retired from the US Army as a Master Sergant, having served during World War II and the Korean War. Don was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur. He loved to watch westerns, fish, go to cookouts and spend time with family and friends.
