James Leo Blacksten, 83, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Michigan City, IN, passed away at 8:12 am, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Bill Barnes and Dr. Lanny Faulkner officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday and 1 hour prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL
Mr. Blacksten was born on July 31, 1926 in Nelsonville, OH, the son of Harley and Dora Lemon Blacksten. He married Rosella Schoonover on March 10, 1952 in Athens, OH. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Diane (Bill) Blacksten of Champaign, Debra (Bill) Fornshell of Atwood and Kathy (Mike) McGinnis of Michigan City, IN, one brother: Jerry Blacksten of Michigan City, IN, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Robert, Harry and Johnny, 3 sisters: Erma, Martha and Emma Jean.
James served in the US Army and spent 2 years in the Korean War. He worked 30 years at Independent Steel Casting in New Buffalo, MI, before retiring in 1990. James was a very active member of the Faith City Assembly of God Church in Michigan City, IN for 50 years before relocating to Illinois in 2007.
James loved his family and will be missed by all.
