Jack Dean Orndorff, 82, of Humboldt, passed away at 12:04 PM Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Humboldt Cemetery with Rev. Jack Woods officiating. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack was born October 13, 1929 in Goodland, Indiana, the son of Glenn B. and Harriet Nohren Orndorff. He was united in marriage to Hilda A. Parkhurst on July 2, 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Orndorff of Humboldt; daughter, Debra (Danny) Maycroft of Humboldt; son, Keith D. Orndorff of Mattoon; grandchildren, Cierra (Arthur Dixon) Orndorff, Karlee (Stewart) Fletcher, Brittany and Bailey Maycroft; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Jean Jones of Mattoon; and niece, Carol (John) Smith of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Paul Jones.
Jack worked on the Illinois Central Railroad as a fireman in 1948. In 1951, he joined the Army and served in Germany for two years during the Korean War. Jack owned his own truck and hauled phosphate and lime for 13 years. He was manager for the Kaiser Agriculture Fertilizer Company for 25 years. He was also the Humboldt Fire Chief for 17 years. Later he worked for Howell Asphalt as a teamster.
Jack was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini fan. He loved watching Nascar and traveling and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 88 for 59 years and also the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3438 for 20 years.
