Ida Mae Moody Stirrett, 91, of Monticello, IL, formerly of Atwood, IL, was welcomed into God's arms at 2:27 A.M., Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Carle Hospital with her family by her side. Her determination helped her live independently, despite current health issues, right up to her death.
Ida was born on December 10, 1923, in Humboldt, IL, to Ellis and Minnie Mae Thompson Moody. She married Robert Andrew Stirrett on December 5, 1944 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2008. She was also preceded by her parents, a son, 2 brothers and a half-sister.
Ida Mae and her husband farmed together until their retirement in 2005. As a farmer's wife, Ida worked alongside her husband and also enjoyed many other activities and interests. Family and friends were Ida's passion and delight. Ida loved music and enjoyed playing the organ as well as singing. She was a member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ in Atwood, IL and sang many solos in church when she was younger. Ida thought her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lit up a room with her smile and laughter. Ida was a lover of sparkly clothes, an avid collector of roosters, and loved to sew. She made the best fried chicken of anyone around and no meal was complete without homemade pie.
Two years ago when Ida moved to Tatman Village, she instantly became part of their family and treasured all the friends she met while living there. Dinners, music, and other activities quickly became favorite parts of her life.
Survivors include her children: Dianne (Tom) Smith of Chester, IL, Janice (Steve) Willoughby of Monticello, IL, and Mike (Diane) Stirrett of Tuscola, IL, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Tatman Village, Monticello, IL for residential improvements.
