Ida Jane Houchens, 73, of Mahomet, Illinois, died at 2:25 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana, Illinois
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Mahomet United Methodist Church, Mahomet, Illinois, with the Rev. Joy Caschetta officiating.
The Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL has been entrusted by the family with the arrangements.
Mrs. Houchens was born on November 18, 1932 in Hastings, Illinois, the daughter of Earnest Blay and Mollie Elizabeth Southworth Guthrie. She married Eugene Daye Houchens on September 29, 1951. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1985.
Survivors include: 1 Son: William Houchens of Willmar, Minnesota, 1 Daughter: Judith Kinkelaar of Mahomet, IL, 7 Grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Sarah and Michael Houchens; and Ross, Grant and Rachel Kinkelaar; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Hillary Hart and Emma Kate Houchens, 3 Sisters: Ellen Walters of Champaign, IL, Jennie Tyler of Tilton, IL, Kathy Voorhees of Fairmount, IL
She was preceded in death by her Parents, 1 Brother: Phillip Guthrie, 1 Sister: Mabel "Jackie" Neal.
Mrs. Houchens graduated from Allerton High School, Allerton, Illinois. She was a waitress for many years at her parents' restaurant, the Village Inn in Broadlands, IL. She worked as a bookkeeper for Gary's Department Store in Danville, IL. She was an electronics assembler at Magnavox in Urbana, IL; worked in production at Colwell Systems, Inc. and Kraft, Inc. in Champaign; was an electronics assembly supervisor for Carroll Touch, Inc. in Champaign and later Round Rock, Texas. She was currently employed as an electronics assembler at Data Comm for Business in Dewey, IL. She received her MIL-STD-2000 Technology Certification from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Mrs. Houchens was a member of the United Community Church, Broadlands, IL. She enjoyed Illini Basketball, country and bluegrass music, dancing, bird watching and especially spending time with her family and friends.
