Howard E. Black, 93, of Sullivan, IL, formerly of Atwood, IL, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL.

Howard was born on August 12, 1919 in Bement, IL, the oldest child of Harry B. and Cubanola Lairmore Black. He married Nancy M. Benner on September 21, 1941 in Villa Grove, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include his sons: Michael (Sandy) Black of Fayetteville, GA, Steven (Mary Gale) Black of Dewey, IL and Nolan (Cathy) Black of St. Louis, MO, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Beverly Ann Stine, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or a church of the donor's choice.

Howard retired from USI Chemical Company in Tuscola, where he worked as a mechanic at the power house. After his retirement, he and his wife lived in New Braunfels, TX and Atlanta, GA, prior to moving to Sullivan. Howard loved to travel the United States and all around the world, including Europe and Australia. He and his wife were members of the Good Sam Camping Club.
