Horace William "Horty" Romine, 73, of Atwood, IL, died at 2:49 PM, Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, November 28, 2005 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Ralph Deal and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-6 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Champaign, IL, with military graveside rites accorded by the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL.
Mr. Romine was born on May 17, 1932 in Garrett Township, IL, the son of Benjerman and Mabel Nixon Romine. He married Phyllis J. Whightsil on November 24, 1955 in Arcola, IL. She survives.

Mr. Romine retired from Quantum USI Chemical Company, Tuscola, IL, in 1991, where he had worked as a traffic manager for 36 years. He was a Real Estate Broker and Associate for Boyd Real Estate in Tuscola, IL. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, rural Arthur, IL, where he also served as president of the church board. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran. He was a 4 time past commander of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770. He was the Chairman of the Piatt County Democratic Party and Democratic Precinct Committeeman. He was currently serving his 7th term as Mayor of the Village of Atwood and he had formerly served on the Village Board of Atwood. He was a 1950 Graduate of Arthur High School. He had formerly kept the Atwood Hammond football teams tackling stats for several years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and enjoyed doing genealogy work.
