Homer Vickroy, 89, a railroad engineer and World War II veteran originally from Central Illinois, died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday,February 4, 2014 in Denver, CO
Mr. Vickroy was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Douglas County, to Estella and Clifford Vickroy. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He served in the 290th Engineering Combat Unit of the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived for many years in Oak Forest, Ill., where he drove the Metra commuter train from Orland Park to Chicago until he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (Walter) Sabodor, James (Donna) Vickroy, Wanda (James) Sanders and Neshia Vickroy; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Helen Ziegler, Paul, Floyd, Charles and Robert Vickroy.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services following at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main St., Tuscola, IL with Rev. Patty Johansen officiating.
