Herbert M. Smiley, 80, of Oakland, died at 4:34 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at his nephew's residence in Oakland.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Arcola Cemetery with Rev. Randy Shannon officiating. There will be no visitation. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Herbert was born April 9, 1936 in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, the son of Alvin and Nancy Armes Smiley.

He is survived by his nephew, Danny Adkins, Jr. and wife Angela of Oakland (they were his caregivers and Herb lived with them); 2 sisters, Betty Adkins of Villa Grove; and Olla Ashby of Valley Station, Kentucky.

Herbert retired from the Thomas Monahan Company where he made broom handles and painted.
