Herbert Eldon Mason, 86, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:50 pm, Friday, June 24, 2011 at the VA Illiana Healthcare System, Danville, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Ralph Deal and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Monday at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 8 pm. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL, with military graveside rites accorded.
Herb was born on December 7, 1924 in Wayne County, IL, the son of Mearl and Mary Jane Daniels Mason. He married Myrtis Moore on July 22, 1948 in Vincennes, IN. She survives.
Other survivors include his sons: Jim (Cyd) Mason of Perrysville, IN, David (Patty) Mason of Newton, IL and Mike (Suzie) Mason of Luling, LA, grandchildren: Laura (Danny) Fiorini, Trent (Miranda) Mason, Jiles Mason and Tyler Mason, two great-grandsons: Mason Fiorini and Drew Fiorini.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Herb retired from USI-Quantum Chemical Company in Tuscola, IL, where he worked as a machinist. He was a US Navy World War II veteran. Herb was a member of the Tuscola United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He was a 50 year member of the Lawrenceville Order of the Eastern Star, Noble Masonic Lodge and the Danville Consistory.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the VAIHCS Community Living Center Alzheimer's and Palliative Care Units.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
